Wix is generally better for a small-business owner who wants to create and manage a website without becoming a web designer. Webflow is better for an experienced designer or team that wants precise responsive control, reusable components and a structured CMS.
They overlap, but they are not equally simple versions of the same tool. Wix packages business features into an accessible builder. Webflow gives a website professional a visual way to work with concepts that are closer to front-end development.

The quick decision is about capability and ownership, not which screenshot looks more powerful. A tool only saves time when the person using it understands the choices it exposes.
Current prices and plan structure
Wix's UK page on 26 August 2026 showed Light at £9, Core at £16, Business at £25 and Business Elite at £119 a month on annual billing. A free branded plan was available without a custom domain. Core was the first listed tier with payments and basic ecommerce.
Webflow priced Site plans in US dollars. Starter was free for a webflow.io subdomain with two static pages and limited CMS use. Basic was $15 a month annually or $25 monthly, supported up to 300 static pages and allowed a custom domain, but did not include dynamic CMS content. Premium was $25 annually or $39 monthly and included up to 40 Collections and 20,000 CMS items.
Webflow's site hosting and collaboration are separate decisions:
a Site plan applies to one website and enables its custom domain, page allowance, CMS and hosting features;
a Workspace plan governs staging, collaboration and capabilities such as code export across work.
A solo owner may only need a Site plan. A designer handing work between several people may need both. Check bandwidth, seats, localisation, ecommerce and add-ons against the actual project.
Wix and Webflow both leave copy, images and site planning with somebody. Add those hours, professional design and paid integrations to the subscription before comparing totals.

Which is easier to use?
Wix is easier for most owners. Templates, guided setup, visual editing, media and business features live in the same service. A user can add a page, move sections and connect bookings or a store without first learning CSS concepts.
Webflow has a visual canvas, but its mental model includes containers, flexbox, grid, classes, responsive breakpoints and interactions. These are useful professional concepts rather than unnecessary obstacles. The learning curve is the cost of controlling them.
Content editing can be straightforward after a Webflow designer builds the system. A marketer can update a well-modelled Collection without touching the page design. The difficult part is creating and governing that system, not necessarily publishing the tenth article.
Wix suits an owner who wants to remain the builder. Webflow suits a designer who wants clients or colleagues to become controlled content editors.
Design control and consistency
Wix allows detailed visual placement and provides a wide template range. It can produce a distinctive site, but the owner must keep spacing, type, colours and mobile behaviour consistent across pages.
Webflow gives finer control over responsive layout and reusable classes. A designer can build a component once, define its behaviour at different widths and reuse it throughout the site. This supports a more deliberate design system and unusual interactions.
The same power can create a complicated class structure or fragile one-off styling. Webflow does not automatically provide better design. It makes professional discipline more expressible.
For a five-page local service site, Wix's faster route may be entirely appropriate. For a campaign site with a custom component library, rich CMS relationships and close designer control, Webflow is likely to fit better.
CMS and editorial work
Wix includes blogging and other content features within its wider business platform. This works well for normal posts, authors, categories and media without asking the owner to design a database.
Webflow Premium uses Collections as structured data. A team can define fields for articles, authors, services, projects or locations, then connect those fields to reusable templates. Updating the source changes every reference, which is valuable for a substantial content programme.
That flexibility needs content modelling. Field names, relationships, limits and editor permissions should be decided before dozens of entries exist. A powerful CMS with an unclear model creates a more organised version of the same content problem.
Wix vs Webflow for SEO
Both cover normal search controls. Wix lets editors set titles, descriptions, slugs, canonicals, indexing and structured data. Webflow supports page-level and dynamic metadata, automatic or custom sitemaps, 301 redirects, canonical tags, indexing controls and custom schema.
Webflow provides more direct control over semantic structure and front-end output. It also asks the designer to use headings, links, images and responsive layout correctly. Wix makes more platform decisions while still giving the owner the common page settings.
Neither platform creates authority or useful search content. A technically elegant Webflow site with generic copy will not outrank a genuinely helpful Wix site simply because its class naming is tidy.
Choose Webflow when its structured content or technical controls solve a defined requirement. Choose Wix when native controls cover the work and the owner is more likely to keep pages accurate there.
Ecommerce and business tools
Wix integrates ecommerce, bookings, events and marketing tools into its broader platform. This makes it attractive to small organisations that want several business functions without assembling a custom stack.
Webflow offers native Ecommerce plans and can connect external services, but its strongest advantage is design control rather than the deepest retail operations. A large shop should compare Shopify and its product, order and fulfilment ecosystem.
The decision should follow the customer journey. List the required payments, booking rules, inventory, taxes, shipping and emails, then test the exact plan. “Supports ecommerce” is too broad to be a requirement.
Maintenance, support and portability
Both providers manage their hosted platform, certificates and core releases. Site owners remain responsible for account access, domains, content, connected services and checking that enquiries and payments work.
Question | Wix | Webflow |
|---|---|---|
Who manages hosting? | Wix | Webflow on a paid Site plan |
Who manages page design? | Owner or hired Wix specialist | Usually a designer, agency or skilled internal user |
Who edits structured content? | Owner or editorial team | Editors can work in the CMS after setup |
Internal recovery | Site History, with limits around app data | Backups and restore points within Webflow |
Can the site be hosted elsewhere? | No complete Wix site export | Static code export with eligible Workspace, but not the complete hosted application |
What needs rebuilding after export? | The destination site | CMS content, Ecommerce, site search, password protection and form processing need alternatives |
Wix states that its sites must run on Wix infrastructure. A move to another platform is a rebuild.
Webflow code export is more portable, but it is not a magic escape hatch. Exported HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets can be hosted elsewhere. Collection content is not exported as a working dynamic CMS, Ecommerce functionality does not transfer, and Webflow form handling stops. The destination still needs content, forms and operational services.
Who should choose Wix?
Choose Wix when:
a business owner wants to build and manage the site directly;
native bookings, events, ecommerce or marketing tools fit;
launch speed matters more than a bespoke front-end system;
one provider for hosting and platform support is valuable;
the team accepts that leaving later involves a rebuild.
Who should choose Webflow?
Choose Webflow when:
a skilled designer will create and govern the site;
precise responsive design and interactions matter;
structured CMS content needs custom fields and templates;
the project benefits from reusable classes and components;
the budget includes appropriate Site, Workspace and collaboration costs.
What if you do not want to learn either?
If Wix feels like too much website work and Webflow feels like a professional design environment, that is useful information. The right alternative may be changing who owns the task.
A managed provider, freelancer or agency can plan, write, design, build and maintain the website. Elkwood is our own managed route for straightforward UK small-business sites from £25 a month, including design, copy, hosting, technical upkeep and reasonable text and image changes within a defined scope.
It does not replace Webflow for bespoke interactive work or Wix for an owner who wants direct control of the editor. Review Elkwood's pricing and what is included to compare the service boundary honestly.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Is Wix better than Webflow?
Wix is better for most DIY small business owners. Webflow is better for designers and teams that can use its responsive design system and structured CMS without turning the project into unnecessary complexity.
Which is cheaper, Wix or Webflow?
Wix Light displayed at £9 a month annually. Webflow Basic displayed at $15 but excludes dynamic CMS content; Premium was $25. Compare the required plans, currency, collaboration, integrations and owner or designer time.
Which is easier for a small business?
Wix is easier to start and manage independently. A well built Webflow site can be easy for content editors, but creating its design and CMS system requires more specialist skill.
Which is better for SEO?
Both provide strong fundamentals. Webflow exposes more technical and structural control, while Wix packages common controls into a simpler workflow. Page quality, authority and maintenance matter more than the platform name.
Can I switch from Wix to Webflow?
Yes, but expect to rebuild the visual site and transfer content. Map every Wix URL, recreate forms and integrations, add redirects in Webflow and test before changing the domain.
What if I do not want to build the website myself?
Compare managed services, freelancers and agencies by deliverables, limits and later support. Confirm who writes the copy, supplies images, owns the domain, maintains hosting and handles changes.
